Gujarat

Time in India is fast coming to an end for me :( But! Not before a little more exploration of Gujarat. Dui was great but it was time to head further West and a lil’ further North!
Next up was Rajkot one of the places that Ghandi spent his childhood! It’s a big hectic city but a good mix of new and old with big wide roads next to neighborhoods of winding old alleys and crumbling buildings. I also took a side trip to Jamnager which wasn’t that impressive to me since the palace was closed and that was the main reason I was going. So don’t trust the Lonely Planet... right.

From Rajkot I headed up to Bhuj which was a really special place I got to explore local villages and the textiles where amazing. The people of this region make really cool tie dyed saris and shawls, mud huts and embroidery. The craft industry is alive and well up here. I also visited the Great Rann which is a hug salt desert within spitting distance of Pakistan.

Weird animals heads and interesting photos in Bhuj

This man was the gardener at a palace I visited in Bhuj. He noticed me taking pictures of his plants and insisted on posing with his flowers!

Then it was onwards to Mandvi where the locals hand craft huge ships! The town itself was much smaller then any I had been to for a while so it was a nice change of pace, the people here were some of the friendliest I have met so far!

Truckers

Last but not least a took a whirl-wind trip through Ahmedabad visiting Sabarmati Ashram  which Ghandhi was based out of and saw more mosques then I can remember.

Gujarat is underrated, its neighbour, Rajasthan, seems to get the limelight. The culture, people, beaches and crafts have made this one of my favorite places to visit of my whole trip! I intend to return here!
