I really feel, and I think that a lot of people I have met would agree with me that the North and South are two different worlds. I have been told that the North is “real” India.
From way down South I needed to cover a lot of ground quickly so I flew from Tirvandrum up to Bombay. Thankfully I was able to book a bus ticket and did not have to spend a night in Bombay! Yaaa
I got an overnight bus up to Auragabad which is a good place to drink chai with old ladies while the examine your hair and laugh at you, but also its a good place to catch a bus to Ajanta.
Ajanta, another World Heritage Site, is a series of caves full of Buddist carvings. The caves are quite amazing, I am always impressed by the time and man-power that must have been put into these old sculptures. Some of the caves are half finished; it gives you an idea of the actual process that creating the caves involved.
Other then take an epIc public bus ride to see the caves I did not do a whole lot in Aurangbad... I guess I was prepping myself for the never ending train rides that followed this stop over on my way to Varanasi!
Train station home girl...
