27.12.12

I wrote something to put up here a while ago, but it doesn’t feel relevant this long after writing it to finally post it. I am in Australia now and I was going to put up some pretty pictures of things like flowers, birds. I went on an epic road trip the other week in Western Australia, it was nice to be camping again and I feel satisfied with having seen at least a chunklet of this place. My emu encounters has also greatly increased from one in a zoo to a crap load everywhere. Thats never a bad thing, ever. Now that Christmas is over and we are starring down the New Year I figure its time to put up some Oz pictures to wrap up the year. Since I am settled into a place  now I am going to have to think of some new ideas to put up here in the new year.

Temples, Monkeys and Stuff

Its been raining for weeks which I am starting to think is way worse then snowing for weeks except that the chance of my toes falling off is a lot less.

I have been visiting a lot of temples as you do and trying to learn a thing or two about Buddhist fundamentals. I had a monk give me a shower for good luck; and have been assured that Dragons and Rabbits can be the best of friends.

I went to one pretty magical temple in Ream National Park, it was surrounded by huge trees, ants and snails; that was great except for the huge ants part. I haven’t had te chance to actually go hiking yet in Rem National Park and unfortunately time is running up and I have to bite the bullet and get a job. I will have to save that for next time.

Other then visiting temples and eating rice I play with lots of small children because the language barrier is not so awkward with them as compared to their parents who seem super uncomfortable around me unless they are a litre into some Wine Cambodia. I will really miss this place and have been quite lucky to get to experience Cambodia as I have. I hope to come back soon, I will I am pretty sure of it but I am getting sentimental as tI am sitting in Bangkok uploading this post.

Lei Hi Cambodia see you soon...

Battanbang

Please forgive my lack of internet presence; for me its been awesome to be bookface free but I do feel a little voice nagging me not neglect my blog... this voice sounds a lot like my mother, hmmm.
Okay so thats over with on to what the fuck is up! I recently went up to Battambang; which was awesome for two reason.
1.) I really wanted to go here about two months ago when I first got to Cambodia but it didn’t work out.
2.) I got to go with Khmer friends so I got to experience a different side of Battambang, one they don’t mention in the Lonely Planet! That always makes my day!
After a painful trip which included a flat tire, the worst seat ever, and a night in Phnom Penh, we made it to Battambang. I arrived to a house full of Cambodians who were three cases of beer into the evening and pretty excited to see how much alcohol and rice they could feed a short, according to them, white girl.

Drunk Cambodian party time.

Here and Bong Yan

I did just fine, and was invited to some cousins wedding the next day.
I hopped in the back of a truck with ten other people and we missioned it out to the sticks to go to this wedding. The first day consisted of me being fed a lot; apparently its quite amazing I know how to eat anything other then baguettes. Its funny what Asian countries think of the West and out habits.

The second day was the actual wedding ceremony which was extremely long, included more costume changes then I can count, and then lots of food and beer! I didn’t really understand what was going on during the wedding but I think there were a lot of blessings; every quite minute was soon filled with the voice of two monks.

Beer, Cows and food... Cambodia wedding

The party was pretty funny actually, I didn’t drink much which was probably for the best judging from the state my friend was in by the end of the day. I spent most of the time trying my best to dance Cambodia style with the drunk dudes who has never seen/danced with a white girl before.

My new home gurls

After that we returned to Battambang; I went to visit a beautiful temple up a million steps, or like 400 steps called Phnom Banan. This was the only time I saw other tourists!

Shit loads of steps

I am so happy I got to go up to Battambang and can not express how thankful I am for how nicely I was treated by the people there. They fed me, beered me, bought me bottled water everyday, and even gave my pajamas!
